The Brownwood Lions defeated the Burkburnett Bulldogs 51-8 in a 7:00 p.m. game on the road Friday night.
Burkburnett started out quickly scoring a touchdown and a two point conversion in the first drive of the game but were dominated the rest of the game by the Lions’ unanswered 51 points.
Brownwood High School Head Football Coach Chuck Howard stated that he was pleased of the Lions’ effort and win.
“These kids came to this game and played extremely hard,” said Howard. “Good things happen when you play hard.”
Howard stated that the team made some adjustments and were successful the rest of the game after Burkburnett’s touchdown.
“We came out emotionally ready and were ready to play some Brownwood Lions football,” Howard said.
With the score so steady, many players who usually don’t get the chance to take the field had their turn against Burkburnett. Backup quarterback McLane Moore made his first completed pass in a game as a Brownwood Lion for 28 yards.
“These are great kids, it’s good to see them all get out on the field,” said Howard.
Although the game went well and the Lions secured a solid win, Coach Howard stated there were still things that need to be refined before next week’s game against the Porcupines at Springtown, especially penalties.
“Springtown is an extremely good football team like Liberty Hill and Graham. They are well prepared and have a lot of talent,” said Howard. “We need to be ready to play when we get there.”
Howard thanked the fans that made the 3 hour trip to Burkburnett Friday night. He explained that he purposely planned a few distant games to get the team ready for lengthy travel to games because he expects to make the playoffs.
“I want the kids to be ready to play on the road with some long trips,” said Howard.
He encouraged fans to attend the game next week in Springtown, Texas. The game will kick off Friday at 7:30 p.m.
