The Brownwood Lions had a convincing 43-6 win over Lampasas Friday night taking them to 3-0 in District 8-3A. With the win over Liberty Hill last week and this week’s win over Lampasas, Brownwood is one step closer to the playoffs. According to Brownwood Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Bob Shipley, without a win over Lampasas, the Lions would have no chance at the district championship, which is the immediate goal of the team.
He stated that to win the game, the team needed to keep Lampasas off the field, which the Lions defense accomplished, limiting the Badgers to only 27 total yards of offense in the first quarter and only a total of 220 yards in the whole game.
“It was a very frustrating 2nd half but the defense kept us in the game,” said Shipley. “…they were a key to our victory.”
Shipley stated that the offense played their part although they were a little sloppy.
“The offense did a good job,” Shipley said. He stated that he was upset with the 12 penalties, most of which were for jumping on offense when the line of Lampasas kept shifting.
“Penalties are something we can’t have against Gatesville,” said Shipley. He explained that the Lions cannot afford any turnovers against Gatesville and that their team is very good, especially offensively.
Next week the Lions will be facing Gatesville, which is a very important game in the Lions’ quest for the district championship.
“It’s obviously a big game, certainly one the players and staff will be concentrating on starting tomorrow,” said Shipley.
Shipley stated that he appreciates the fans for supporting this year’s Brownwood Lions.
“Thanks for backing these boys. They are a great representation of a great place to live,” said Shipley.
