The Brownwood Lions lived up to their #1 ranking by beating the Sweetwater Mustangs 63-6 in Friday night’s game. This win takes the Lions to a 9-0 record on the season and 3-0 in District 5-3A play. It also secures them a spot in the playoffs as they look to finish the regular season next week against Abilene Wylie.
Scoring plays include:
5 plays into Brownwood’s first possession of the game, QB Graylon Brown connects with Jaxon Shipley for a 4 yard reception for a TD. Dillon Ellis scores the extra point making the score 7-0.
Vance McShan makes back to back interceptions for a 21 yard carry then 4 downs later, he gets the second, a 22 yard carry.
Shipley grabs the deep pass from Graylon Brown for another TD, a 15yd reception. This is followed by another extra point by D. Ellis. The score climbs to 14-0.
In the second quarter, Shipley makes an amazing punt return for a 61 yard touchdown evading mulitple tackles. Ellis gets the extra point, making it now 21-0.
Caden Ellis Sacks Sweetwater’s QB, forcing a punt. Two plays later, Shipley gets another 47 yard pass for a TD followed by the Ellis extra point. Score is 27-0.
With 3:40 left in the half, Ethan Horton sacks the SHS QB forcing another punt. Three plays later, Stehl Ratliff scores with an 11yd TD run. The Ellis extra point is again good bringing the score to 35-0.
In the first minutes into the second half, Brown carries for a 12 yd TD run, his third for the year. The extra point is good. Score is 42-0.
Just 17 seconds after the previous TD, Sweetwater fumbles the kickoff return and Thumper Harrell recovers the ball at the 15 yd line.
Levi Perez makes the most of the situation and scores a rushing TD. Ellis boots another extra point adding to the score which is now 49-0.
Sweetwater gets the ball and doesn’t get too far, punts at the 12 yd line, which is blocked by Levi Westerman, which Alex Elizondo recovers in the end zone for a touchdown. Ellis sends up another extra point, making it 56-0.
With 11:07 left in the game, Sweetwater scores on an 11 play drive on a 13 yard TD. The extra point is hits the uprights and is no good, the game is at 56-6.
Thumper Harrell gets the ball and takes it 4 yards with a diving TD. The extra point is good from Ellis, who was 9 for 9 for the game.
Final score is 63-6.
Brownwood Lions with a perfect regular season of 9-0 will face Abilene Wylie in Abilene, next Friday, November 6th at 7:30pm. Abilene Wylie lost their game this week against Snyder 49-3. With a win over Abilene Wylie, Brownwood will clinch the district championship.
