LibertyHillgamearticleThe Brownwood Lions make an impressive comeback this week.  Despite having several starters out with injuries, Brownwood takes the win against the Liberty Hill Panthers.

The Lions get an early lead with a rushing touchdown by # 25 Derek Longoria during Brownwood’s first drive.

Early in the 2nd quarter, quarterback Mitch Stephens makes a monster 54 yard touchdown pass to #12 Dillon Ellis.

Liberty Hill responds on their next possession with a field goal and their first score of the night.

Later in the 2nd quarter, Brownwood makes another quick drive resulting in another touchdown by #38 Stehl Ratliff.

With less than two minutes left in the half, #25 Derek Longoria intercepts a pass by Liberty Hill and runs back a 67 yard touchdown.

Brownwood cools off a little in the start of the 3rd quarter missing a field goal on their first drive of the half.  Things begin to pick up for the Lions as Liberty Hill fumbles the ball on their next possession.  Longoria recovers and returns an impressive 77 yard touchdown.

Liberty Hill finally puts a touchdown on the board in the beginning of the 4th quarter with a quarterback sneak followed by a two point conversion.

Brownwood runs the ball on their next drive, but quarterback Mitch Stephens fumbles the ball on a hit which is recovered by Liberty Hill.

Brownwood gets the ball back during Liberty Hill’s next drive with an interception by #20 Logan Gough.

Liberty Hill makes a hard running push to the end zone in the closing minutes of the game scoring a touchdown.

Brownwood gets the ball back and runs down the clock.  Brownwood wins 34-17 putting the Lions at 3-1 for the season.

Head Coach Bob Shipley recognized the defense and the running game during a post game team meeting.  Shipley also complimented quarterback Mitch Stephens for his performance in the first half.  Shipley said, “We’re not where we need to be, but we are on our way.”

Next week is a much needed open week for the Lions to heal up.  Lions play at Manor on October 2nd.
