It was the game that would decide Brownwood’s fate. “Win and you’re in” was the motto of the week as Brownwood and Snyder battled for a playoff spot Friday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.
The Lions struggled some in the first half scoring only one touchdown on a 6 yard pass from QB Vance McShan to Luke Chastain in the end zone halfway through the first quarter. The extra point was blocked by Snyder.
Snyder scored twice in the first two quarters, once with only two seconds left in the half. Score at halftime had the Snyder Tigers in the lead 6-14.
The Brownwood Lions came back after the half with a new attitude and determination to win their playoff spot.
Brownwood’s Dillon Ellis started things off with a 36 yard field goal kick in the third quarter. RB Stehl Ratliff ended the third with an 18 yard touchdown run to put Brownwood in the lead 15-14.
The Lions held on tight to their lead shutting out the Tigers in the second half. Jaxon Shipley grabbed an interception in the final minutes of the 4th quarter to help wrap things up. On the next play, Ratliff ran 38 yards for a 22-14 Lions’ lead to end another exciting game.
The Lions held Snyder to only two 1st downs and 40 yards of offense in the 2nd half.
The Brownwood Lions are co-district 2-3A champions sharing the honor with Wylie and Graham.
The Lions head to Texas Tech’s Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock next Friday to face Dalhart in a Class 3A Division II bi-district game. Kickoff time is set for 8pm.
