Brownwood ISD welcomes two new faces to the administration as the beginning of the new school year approaches. Dr. Hector Martinez comes aboard as Brownwood ISD’s Executive Director of Human Resources and Operations and Richard Sweaney as principal of Brownwood Middle School.

Dr. Martinez has worked in education since 1999. He began his new position in Brownwood on July 11, 2016.  He received his doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at Austin, his master’s degree in Educational Leadership and bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Tarleton State University.  Dr. Martinez began his career as a business/technology teacher at Brady High School in Brady, Texas.  He also served as an assistant principal and principal of Brady High School from 2003 to 2012.  Following his time at Brady ISD, Dr. Martinez moved to Taylor ISD where he served as the principal of Taylor Middle School from 2012 to 2016, until moving to Brownwood ISD.  Dr. Martinez is currently a member of Texas Association of School Administrators and The Texas Association of Secondary School Principals.

Dr. Martinez (pictured left) has three children, Andre, 9, Lana, 4 and Kai, 1 and has been married for 15 years to his wife, Blanca, who will also be working in the district as a Response to Intervention (RtI) Specialist.

“I am excited for the opportunity to work with an outstanding group of teachers and administrators in Brownwood ISD,” stated Martinez.  “I look forward to working with our district’s new teacher mentor program and first time administrator’s academy.”

Richard Sweaney is currently serving his 16th year working in education and joins Brownwood ISD as the Brownwood Middle School Principal. He attended Texas A&M University-Commerce for both his Bachelor of Science and master’s degree.  Prior to becoming an administrator in 2015, Sweaney served as a high school English teacher and football and baseball coach.  He began his teaching and coaching career at Victoria Memorial and has had stops at Brady, Burleson and Waco Midway.

His wife, Heather, also joins Brownwood ISD as a Response to Intervention (RtI) Specialist and they have two children, Harrison, 7 and Hadley, 5.

“We are excited to be relocating to Brownwood and becoming part of a successful school district and community,” stated Sweaney.
