Brownwood Independent School District has been chosen as a finalist in the 2013 Excellence in Education H-E-B Awards, a prestigious annual competition that could reward the district with a $50,000 cash prize.
“We are honored just to be nominated,” said Brownwood ISD Superintendent, Dr. Reece Blincoe. “We’re elated to be a finalist.”
Brownwood ISD is one of only three finalists in the small-district category along with KIPP Houston, and Hillsboro. A panel of judges will meet with school administrators, staff, and parents to determine the winners that will be awarded at a ceremony in Austin on May 3rd.
“This is the most prestigious award that a district in Texas can receive,” noted Blincoe. “It is a tribute to the hard work and innovation that sets us apart from others.”Districts, teachers, administrators, early childhood providers, and individual campuses are nominated for the awards each year by H-E-B customers, employees, and community members, and the grocery chain has given close to $6 million in awards through the program since it was started in 2002.
