PinkOutAlexHarris2015

Checks funded by proceeds raised from this year’s Pink-Out were presented to the families of Alex Harris and DaLin Cummings during the Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, December 14th.

Over $13,000 was raised during the Brownwood ISD “Pink-Out” fundraiser on October 16th, coinciding with breast cancer awareness month.  The total raised included a generous $5000 donation from Big Country Ford, donations collected from the “pink pumpkins” set up at the football game, as well as t-shirt sales.

Brownwood High School counselor, Sheila Senkirik, presented the checks to Cummings and Harris.  Both are currently battling cancer.

Cummings, the Digital Media Specialist at Brownwood Middle School, has been fighting cancer for the last 3 years after spots were detected on her spine, and Harris, a Brownwood High School sophomore, was recently diagnosed with a form of thyroid cancer.

“Our Brownwood Pink-Out fundraiser this year was another big success,” said Senkirik during the presentation. “All of our campuses joined together and worked really hard.”

Each year, a Pink-Out t-shirt is designed specifically for the event.  Faculty, staff, and students throughout the district wear pink throughout the day and at the football game during Pink-Out to increase awareness and raise money for those within the BISD family that are currently fighting cancer.
