Veterans Day at Brownwood ISD was welcomed with an unexpected honor from Retired Master Sargent William W. Reece. Brownwood ISD Superintendent Dr. Reece Blincoe was presented with a Certificate of Authenticity and an official United States flag as a token of gratitude for broadcasting the most recent high school graduation via the Internet. The broadcast benefitted servicemen and women deployed around the world that had sons or daughters graduating but could not be there to attend.

This specific flag was flown on Patriots Day “9/11” 2010 at Forward Operating Base Sharana located in Eastern Afghanistan. MSG Reece, in military dress, handed the tightly folded flag and certificate to Dr. Blincoe with a firm handshake at the Brownwood ISD Central Office on Friday and thanked him for the ability to watch his son’s graduation while being deployed to Afghanistan.

MSG Reece was the initial influence for setting up the broadcast of the graduation.  After a brief conversation in passing, Blincoe learned that MSG Reece would not be able to attend his son’s graduation due to his deployment.

“I told him, that I wouldn’t accept that and that I would do all I could to get graduation on the Internet for him and others to see.” Blincoe said. “With the help of the Technology Department we were able to accomplish the task.”
