Following a special-called board meeting, Wednesday, November 4th, Brownwood ISD board members, in a unanimous vote, named Dr. Joe F. Young as the lone finalist for the position of superintendent.
Dr. Young is currently serving as a Deputy Superintendent at Corsicana ISD where he has been since 2008. Prior positions held include: High School Principal, District Technology Director, and Athletic Director for Grapeland ISD, High School Biology Teacher at Cypress Fairbanks ISD, and Health Department Chair and teacher at The Woodlands High School and Caney Creek High School within Conroe ISD.
Bringing to the table a wide variety of educational qualifications, Dr. Young is an experienced, successful administrator in all facets of school leadership. He worked in a wide range of positions and schools with varying demographics and sizes allowing him to understand multiple approaches to solving today’s complex educational issues.
At both campus and district levels, Dr. Young has the proven ability to lead and achieve success in Administrative Services, Curriculum and Instruction, Business and Finance, Human Resources, Technology, Athletics, and Federal and Special Programs.
Having successfully worked with communities and bond planning committees in three separate districts, Dr. Young effectively and efficiently helped open two campuses as a teacher, one campus as a high school principal, and new athletic facilities as an athletic director.
His experience also includes being involved directly with his Board of Trustees in strategic planning, decision-making, Board training, and professional development.
Dr. Young has a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Sam Houston State University, a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas Wesleyan University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science from Texas A&M University as well as Texas Teacher, Principal, and Superintendent Certifications.
The Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to name Dr. Young as the lone finalist. There will be a 21-day grace period before a contract is finalized. A special-called board meeting has been scheduled for December 2nd at 12:30 p.m. for the purpose of completing the contract that would put Dr. Young in position to officially begin as the Brownwood ISD Superintendent on January 4th.
