Brownwood ISD has announced the hiring of Charles “Chuck” Chesser as the principal of Brownwood Intermediate School. Chesser has thirteen years of elementary education experience, and served most recently as the principal of Shive Elementary School in Vernon, Texas, a 4th and 5th grade campus.
Chesser is a Brownwood High School graduate and third generation Brownwood native. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Tarleton State University in 1997, with certifications in Elementary Reading, English and Self-Contained. Chesser spent nine years in the classroom teaching grades kindergarten through fifth grades.
In 2000, Chesser obtained a Master’s Degree in Education from Tarleton State University.
Under Chesser’s leadership as principal of Shive Elementary School from 2006-2010, Shive Elementary was named a National Center for Educational Achievement – Higher Performing School in 2009, and campus TAKS passing rates increased by over ten percent.
Chesser comes from a family of educators, including his mother Margaret, who taught sixth grade for almost 25 years in Brownwood ISD.
In regard to his philosophies as a principal, Chesser said, “I believe these children are our future. We have to do right by them.” He described his leadership style as one that revolves around relationships. “Being a principal is about building relationships with the community, teachers and students, and creating an environment of mutual respect,” said Chesser.
BISD has also gained Chesser’s wife, Stephanie, who will be teaching third grade at Northwest Elementary. The Chessers have a five year-old daughter, a seven year-old son, and seven year-old daughter.
