On Friday, January 24th, Brownwood Intermediate held their 2014 Annual Texas Bluebonnet Voting Celebration.  Schools all over the great state of Texas are casting their vote for their favorite Bluebonnet Book during the month of January.

Brownwood Intermediate School had a total of 290 student voters.  To become a voter, each student must have read at least 5 of the 20 Bluebonnet Award books.  This not only allows them to vote in the state election, but enrolls them into the “Bluebonnet Club” at BIS.  The school’s next club is the “Royal Bluebonnets” where members need to read at least 12 of the 20 book nominees.  As an added reward, the Royal Club members are treated to a “Royal Birthday Bash.”  The last club is the “Cool Blue Club.”   These members are the elite few who have read all 20 of the bluebonnet books, and they receive a special “Cool” T-Shirt while being treated to a “Cool” lunch with Principal, Charles Chesser.

The Bluebonnet Voting Celebration at BIS included an original rocking Bluebonnet reading song, sung by the BIS Choir, creative exhibits of Bluebonnet book covers created by the art and computer classes, and a “Royal superhero,” Captain Bluebonnet (Principal Chesser), who served as the Master of Ceremonies.

After counting the votes, BIS students nominated the following books during the voting ceremony:

3rd place with 22 votes: GIANTS BEWARE! by Jorge Aguirre

2nd place with 28 votes: JANGELS: A BIG FISH STORY by David Shannon

1st place with 58 votes: THE ONE AND ONLY IVAN by Katherine Applegate

January 31st is the last day of state-wide voting, after which Brownwood Intermediate School will find out how their results compared to the rest of the state.
