Brownwood ISD officials announced on Thursday, May 27, that they will be hiring a new principal for the Brownwood Intermediate School. “We will begin the search immediately, and hope to have a principal in place by the July board meeting,” said Dr. Reece Blincoe, BISD Superintendent.
The decision to hire a new principal has nothing to do with academic affairs, but with extenuating circumstances that make the change necessary.
According to state and local policy, a personnel issue must remain confidential, so BISD officials cannot comment about the status of the current principal, Mrs. Connie Easterwood.“This decision has not been made lightly,” commented Dr. Blincoe. “We have only reached this consensus after visiting with numerous staff members, parents, school board members and community members. We feel this decision is what is best for the students and the staff at the Intermediate School.”
Blincoe stated that he had met with staff for about an hour and a half yesterday because he believed staff needed to be made aware of the situation.
“We will be using two staff members (from Brownwood Intermediate School) to help with the search as we did at Woodland Heights,” said Blincoe. These staff members will be Robert Howington and Hope Bearden, who are currently employed at Brownwood Intermediate School according to Blincoe.
“Howington and Bearden will try to help with getting teachers’ input on questions and specific things they want asked of a new principal,” explained Blincoe.
The Brownwood Intermediate School’s website, will soon have a link to comment or ask questions regarding the search for the next principal. “Community members are encouraged to comment,” said Blincoe. Emails of both Howington and Bearden are available on the school’s website as well.
