At Monday night’s BISD School Board meeting, there were several presentations of thanks given not only to the School Board members but also to a local business that has been very supportive to Brownwood ISD. In honor of the dedication and service the Brownwood School Board members give to the district, Landmark Life gave teachers and board members a nice shirt for wearing at special events. Landmark Life was given a framed photo collage that read, “Brownwood High School – Blue Ribbon School 2009, Thanks for Your Support – Landmark Life”.

Students at Brownwood Middle School had works on display during the meeting. Their art class is instructed by Julie Mize. These colorful and impressive works were enjoyed by all. Photos of a few of these may be viewed below.
Discussion was held about the 2010-2011 school calendar. A 177 day school year with 3 comp days and bad weather days allowed has been drafted and will be an agenda item next month. Several holidays, spring break and early release days were discussed. The fall and spring semesters were discussed in relation to ending at the Christmas holidays. This would help students taking dual credit classes as it would correlate with university schedules. It was also felt that students generally have to miss more days with extracurricular activities such as livestock shows, sports, and etc. during the second semester.
The Technology Plan was approved and a survey was sent out to parents and students to see how the experience of student laptops is working out for students and parents. Results of this survey will be available at the next school board meeting. Another survey will be sent out at near the end of the year.
The last item on the agenda was an announcement for a special Board Meeting on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 6:30 pm. This meeting is on a Tuesday due to the Athletic Banquet being held on Monday, January 18, 2010.
