Brownwood News – Brownwood HOSA future health professionals participated in the 41st Annual International Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas June 27-30. Brownwood High School (BHS) HOSA sponsored six students, five who competed in events and one student, Emily Chapa, who was an International Voting Delegate chosen by the Executive Advisor for Texas HOSA. Ms. Chapa is one of only 21 voting delegates for the State of Texas.
James Bautista, Lorelei Briley, MacKinley Coppic and Laurel Glass competed in the Health Care Issues Exam. James Bautista was recognized for Excellence for his work in presenting the BHS HOSA Chapter for the category of Outstanding HOSA Chapter. HOSA Chapters must complete a list of criteria at each level, Local, Area and State to qualify for consideration at the International Leadership Conference.
Maecy Delacruz was recognized for Excellence in her efforts for the HOSA National Service Project supporting fundraisers for the National Alliance for Mental Health (NAMI).

The 2018 International HOSA Leadership Conference also made history for Brownwood HOSA by the addition of the new Brownwood Middle School (BMS) HOSA Chapter. BMS HOSA was charted in October 2017. Of the 25 active participants throughout the school year, four students qualified to compete at the International level.
Tayler Pickney placed in the top 10 in Health Career Exploration. Aishwarya Nigalye placed in the top 10 in Nutrition. Christopher Robinson placed 3rd in Healthy Lifestyle. Leila Gautier also competed at the International level, having received first place in Medical Terminology for Texas.
Mrs. Kristi Sharpe willingly agreed to be the advisor for the BMS HOSA Chapter and has been very instrumental in helping these students prepare for their successful competition.
Mrs. Ann Tew, BHS HOSA Advisor stated, “Mrs. Annalyn Deen and I are extremely grateful for Mrs. Sharpe’s selfless direction in starting and continuing BMS HOSA. It will be exciting to welcome students from our Middle School into our Health Science Program who are already familiar with and excited about competing in HOSA.”
