The Brownwood Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 1800 block of Avenue D Thursday morning shortly before 9am.
Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston said that a woman and a 4-year-old child were asleep in the home when the fire started, but were able to escape the blaze without injury. Another adult and child who live there were not at home at the time. The cause of the fire has not been determined and is still under investigation.
The fire essentially gutted the interior of the home and caused significant damage to its exterior.
Preston also said that another home in the 2200 block of High Meadows in Brownwood caught fire around 2am. He said that most of the fire damage in this incident was contained inside of the home. The cause of that fire has also not been determined.
