The Brownwood Lions faced the Godley Wildcats Friday night at Gordon Wood Stadium in the first scrimmage of the 2012 season.

Lions head coach Bob Shipley said that overall, he liked being able to play a different team than usual to help identify some of Brownwood’s strengths and weaknesses.

“I just felt like it was good for us to go against somebody else,” Shipley said. “It’s a different speed, those guys are quick and tough as nails and that was good for us.”

Shipley said they will watch film of the scrimmage to work on improvements, but he said that he has already identified some areas that need improvement on offense and defense.

JV and freshmen teams also scrimmaged Godley before the varsity took the field, but only after a rain delay.   Rain continued off and on throughout the varsity scrimmage as well.

Brownwood will travel to Marble Falls next Friday for the second scrimmage of the season. The nondistrict season opener against Fort Worth All Saints will be August 31st at 7:30pm at Fort Worth Brewer Stadium.
