Brownwood residents saddened by the lack of haunted house events may have a new adventure to appease their thrill-seeking desires. The Brownwood High School Varsity Players will present a spooky tour of the Dorothy McIntosh Fine Arts Center in the high school during this upcoming Halloween weekend.

“We’ve got zombies, we’ve got crazy insane asylum people, it’s just great,” says Brownwood High School Theatre Director Shannon Lee.

The community is welcome to join 15-30 minute-long tours on Friday October 28th from 7-11 p.m. and Saturday October 29th from 6 p.m. to midnight. Admission is $5 and children 12 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.

This event will help raise funds for the theater department for upcoming events, field trips, and plays. The tours will take place throughout the Fine Arts Center, with scares to be discovered in the audience seating sections, on the stage, waiting in the wings, and even backstage and in the dressing rooms. Scenes based on popular horror movies can be found throughout the tour.

“Me and the kids built this, and I was back there setting up the lighting for it and even got scared myself,” laughs Lee. “Theaters are creepy places, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Parents hoping to bring younger adventurers are welcome. “This is a family friendly haunt with measures in place to empower even the youngest patrons,” assures Lee. “We have Power Sticks for the little ones, which will glow in the dark and scare away all the monsters.”

Entrance to the tours can be found near the Brownwood High School band hall parking lot on 10th street across from First United Methodist Church. Signage will be in place directing visitors to the tour entrance. Pictured above is Mariah Solis on the haunted set.
