The Brownwood ISD school board unanimously approved the implementation of the Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers school safety program.
Brownwood Police School Resource Officer Fred Bastardo presented an overview of the program to school board trustees on Monday which will work to “provide a safe working and learning environment for the students, faculty, and staff of Brownwood High School.”
In the program, Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers will provide a conduit for anonymous tips about crimes that have been committed or crimes that will be committed in the future on school property, on school buses, at school events, or violations of major school policy. Crime Stoppers will allow the use of their communications system, tip line and website for communications of anonymous tips by students and school personnel.Tipsters will be paid rewards for tips that lead to an arrest for any of the reported violations based on Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers’ policies. Students and school personnel will receive printed material and training on the program once it is fully implemented at the High School.
“It’s a very good program; I am very, very excited about it,” said Officer Bastardo.
Officer Bastardo said that he hopes to expand the program to the Middle School if the High School implementation is successful.
