Brownwood High School Cheerleaders and Lion Crew are gearing up to help in the fight against childhood cancer by selling “Knock Out Childhood Cancer” t-shirts for the September 5, 2014 football game.
They will be donating all the monies raised to Hope From the Heart, a local organization (named for being the geographic Heart of Texas). All of the money raised will be used to help Brown County families dealing with childhood cancer.
All children diagnosed with childhood cancer in Brown County have to travel to receive treatment. This means one or more family members will need to travel with the child, find housing and food, and take care of basic needs while their child is undergoing treatment. Often, these families are fairly young and there are siblings to care for as well. It can be overwhelming to try and keep the household running while caring for their sick child. Hope from the Heart wants these families to know they are not alone and that someone who has been through this is there to listen and provide support.All the aforementioned are reasons why the Cheerleaders and Crew chose to help out with this organization but more importantly to raise awareness about childhood cancer.

- On average 46 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer every day in the US
- On average, one in every 4 elementary schools has a student with cancer. The average high school has 2 students who are currently being treated for cancer or are cancer survivors
