ValSal2014

The Brownwood Senior High School Academic Awards Ceremony was held Monday, May 19, 2014, at 6:00 pm in the BHS Auditorium.  Larry Mathis, BHS Speech and Theatre Director, served as Master of Ceremonies.

Students were honored for academic strength in individual courses as well as by academic department of study.  Extracurricular honors were bestowed upon those participating and advancing beyond the district level in UIL Speech, One Act Play, Choir, and Band, Health Occupations Students of America, Skills USA, and Key Club. Students earning certifications or demonstrating proficiency in Floriculture, Veterinary Science, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Health Science were recognized as well.

Athletic Director Chuck Howard presented the Pride of the Pride Awards, Army Reserve Scholar Athletes, and the Rex Fleming Christian Athletes of the Year.  Special Guests Robert Dugan with the American Legion and Judy Spivy from the Daughters of the American Revolution were on hand to present the American Legion Leadership Award and the DAR Good Citizen Award.

Numerous sophomores were recognized for satisfying Texas ACT Council Plan test college readiness standards, while many seniors were honored with the UIL Top Ten Percent Scholar Award.

The program closed with the presentation of cum laude, magna cum laude, and summa cum laude Academic Distinction Awards by grade level based upon overall student grade point averages.

Retiring Principal Bill Faircloth named the Salutatorian, Shelby McKillip, and the Valedictorian, Victoria Hood, and recognized all the students, parents, and faculty present for the outstanding achievements made this year at BHS.
