The Brownwood High School Fellowship of Christian Athletes traveled to Burnet on Saturday, December 8th to partake in First Baptist Burnet’s Main Street Bethlehem.
The 18 students that attended were able to experience the “town of Bethlehem” like it was 2,000 years ago around Jesus’ birth. “Our students had the experience of a lifetime at Main Street Bethlehem as they got to interact with people that were in character,” said Brownwood High School teacher and coach Ty Lang. “They [the performers] acted like true residents of Bethlehem on the night that Jesus was born.” Students were also given the opportunity to see how rope, candles, and pottery were made during that period in history. In addition, students experienced the Roman guards, Bethlehem bread and the inn–that was full. There were camels, sheep, goats and some crazy characters. “The night ended with a beautiful scene of Joseph, Mary and Jesus in a cave on the edge of town,” added Lang. “From seeing live animals, and watching the townspeople working their trade, to reflecting on the manger scene, it was a night that the students will not soon forget.”
