The Brownwood High School Class of 2014, saddened by the loss of a classmate and the unexpected loss of another classmate’s father over the past weekend, has set up benefit accounts as a way to express their condolences.
Early Saturday morning, March 8th, BHS senior Billy Jones was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident near Ballinger. One other occupant of the vehicle was also killed and a third occupant was sustained nonlife-threatening injuries. Jones’ funeral arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home in Brownwood.
“The kids just wanted to do something to honor Billy’s memory,” explained Jill Goodwin. She stated that gathering donations for Billy helps his classmates to deal with the loss of their friend. The funds will be given to his family, who then can decide how to use the funds in memoriam.
Senior Mackey Gibson also suffered a huge loss as his father passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 9th. James Gibson was 58 and leaves behind his wife June and 5 sons, Mackey and a younger brother still live at home. Mr. Gibson’s funeral arrangements are also under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home. These accounts have been opened at Western Bank, located at 1110 Clements Street in Brownwood. Officials at Western Bank state that donors may make a donation at the bank or by sending donations to the following address:
Western Bank
P.O. Box 550
Brownwood Texas
Donors are asked to note the student name, “Billy Jones” or “Mackey Gibson” on their donation so that funds may be deposited in the appropriate account.
The Class of 2014 offers thanks to those who help them in their efforts in honor/support of these students, their classmates and friends, during this difficult time.
