With the close of the 2010-2011 school year fast approaching, area high schools are preparing for commencement and honoring their top graduates. Brownwood High School proudly announced that 197 students have completed the necessary requirements to take part in the commencement exercise at 7:00 pm on Friday, May 27th at the Brownwood Coliseum, becoming the “Brownwood High School Class of 2011”.
The top two graduates this year are Valedictorian, David Luke Chastain and Salutatorian, Caitlyn Kennedy Cloy. Below are biographies of each of these honored students followed by the names of graduates in the Class of 2011 for both Brownwood High School and Brownwood Accelerated High School.
Valedictorian – David Luke Chastain, GPA 4.01
Luke is the son of Kirk and Genetha Chastain. During his high school career he has participated in FCA & the FCA Football All-Star Game, Choices, has played varsity soccer (3 years), and varsity football (3 years). Honors include Rotary Student of the Month (October), Honorable Mention Football All-State Safety, 1st Team All-District Safety & Wide Receiver, Magna Cum Laude Freshman year, Summa Cum Laude Sophomore, Junior and Senior year, 2010 Departmental Awards – Dual Credit Physics and Pre AP Pre-Calculus, 2009 Departmental Awards – English II Pre AP, 2008 Departmental Awards – Geometry Pre AP and voted Most Intelligent by his peers. Luke plans to attend Texas A&M this fall and study pre-med for a career as a cosmetic surgeon.
Salutatorian – Caitlyn Kennedy Cloy, GPA 3.91
Caitlyn is the daughter of Michael and Dana Cloy. She has been a varsity cheerleader (co-captain this year), President of HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) and a member of the National Honor Society. Caitlyn will be attending Hardin Simmons University in Abilene where she will continue her cheerleading career as an HSU cheerleader. She will major in physical therapy and has plans to attend medical school.
