A pair of medals will be coming home to Brownwood from two local athletes in the 3A State Track and Field Meet held at Myers Stadium in Austin on Saturday.
Brownwood Lion Mitch Stephens came in second in the 3A boys 300 meter hurdles with a time of 38.51.
Lady Lion Lexie Freitze secured a medal with the third place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.61. Freitze was also fourth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.10.
Head Brownwood track coach Don Hood said that the two athletes gave the school something to be proud of at the meet.
“I’m very proud of her and Mitch,” Hood said. “Both of them ran to their potential today – about as well as they could possibly run. That’s hard to do under the stress of a championship meet. They gave us a lot to be proud of today.”
Zephyr High School athletes also placed in several 1A events with Dillon Williams taking fifth in the 800 meter run, Brittany Hanks coming in ninth in the 100 meter dash, and Chasity King taking fifth place in the 1600 meter run.
