Brownwood News – BHS Homecoming Queen Nominees for 2017-2018 have been announced. The Brownwood Lions face the Graham Steers for their homecoming game on Friday, September 8, at 7:30 pm at Gordon Wood Stadium. The crowning of the homecoming queen will take place during half-time festivities.
This year, four Brownwood High School students are vying for the crown, including:
Cora McNeese is the daughter of Eric and Sarah McNeese. She has two brothers, Liam (13) and Rory (9). Cora is captain of the BHS Lionettes and loves performing with her best friends on Friday nights. She is a member of the Spanish Club, Student Council, and National Honor Society.
She attends Feat Studios, where she continues her training in dance. Through dance and drill team, she has had the opportunity to perform in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl, San Antonio Spurs halftime show, Austin Torros halftime show, Disney Christmas Parade, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
She is a member of First United Methodist Church and IMPACT youth. She plans to further her education at either Arizona State University or the University of Texas at Austin next fall. She plans to study Business Management and hopes to continue dancing on a team. Cora’s plans for the future include owning her own dance studio and traveling through service and missionary work.
Macy Smith is the daughter of Chris and Cody Smith.
She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Student Council, and Skills USA, a statewide competition which she has won two consecutive years.
She is also a captain of the Lady Lions soccer team.
She is currently employed at the Runaway Train Café.
After high school, Macy hopes to attend Texas A&M University and continue on to veterinary school.
Mya McDowell is the daughter of Miranda and Marcus McDowell.
She has two brothers, Arias Duffie and Kenyan McDowell.
Throughout her high school years, Mya has participated in Student Council, Basketball, Volleyball, and Track. She is currently a member of HOSA, NHS, and the Lady Lions softball team.
She is a member of The Church of the Living God, works as a lifeguard at the Camp Bowie Aquatic Center, and during her free time enjoys painting.
She plans to attend college out-of-state in Florida. Her goal is to be accepted at the University of Florida, majoring in Marine Biology so she can become a Marine Biologist.
Sage Cupps is the daughter of Lisa and Jerry Cupps. She is a member of the Brownwood FFA Chapter and a two-year varsity basketball player at Brownwood High School.
Last year she received: District 5-4A MVP, Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Region, Texas Region Girls Coaches Association All-State, Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Region, Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-State, All Big Country Super-Team First Team, and was invited to play in the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star Game.
Sage works part-time on a ranch in Priddy, Texas. Her job includes working cattle, drenching sheep, cleaning water troughs, repairing fence, pulling hay out of fields, and feeding animals.
Sage is undecided on where she wants to go to college, though she hopes to pursue a basketball career at the collegiate level while getting a degree in Criminal Justice.
