grouppic_lionsarticleThe Brownwood Lions coast through the Class 3A Division 2 bi-district playoff game which kicked off in Lubbock, at Texas Tech’s Jones AT&T Stadium Friday night where they faced the Dalhart Golden Wolves.

Due to the Graham vs. Borger game, kick off of the Brownwood game had a late start at 8:27pm on Friday. Brownwood won the coin toss and elected to receive.

Brownwood’s first possession, a 71.5 yard drive was stopped  ½ a yard short of the goal line.

In their second possession, a big 3rd down catch by Joseph Henry  set Brownwood up to score.  With 5:28 left in the first quarter, 3rd & 3, Stehl Ratliff gets his 13th TD of the season, making the score 6-0.  Dillon Ellis follows through with a good extra point and the game is at 7-0.

Second quarter, with 4:38 left on the clock, Brownwood at the 14 yd line, QB Vance McShan connects with WR Jaxon Shipley for an 86 yard carry, making it 13-0.  Again, Ellis delivers the extra point, to raise it to 14-0.

With only 0:13 seconds left on the clock, 4th  & 1 at the 3 yard line, Derek Longoria makes a leaping touchdown, ending a 10 play drive.  Once again Ellis gets the extra point, the Lions dominating the 1st half 21-0.

In the 3rd quarter, Stehl Ratliff makes a 25 yard TD, boosting the score to 27-0.  Ellis pulls his kick a little to the right, missing  the extra point.  Perez makes a great reception, keeping the next drive alive, which set the stage for another McShan to Shipley TD with 2:30 left in the 3rd quarter.  Putting the score at 33-0.

Being the classy coach that he is, head coach Bob Shipley put in several JV and Freshman players, allowing them to play in their first playoff game, and kept the Lions from running up the score on Dalhart.  An option pitch gone wrong caused a fumble which was scooped up by Dalhart’s Carter, for their only touchdown of the game.  The final score was 33-7.

Overall Stats for the game:
