Two longtime Brownwood Firefighters were recognized at Tuesday’s city council meeting for their years of service as they retire from the Brownwood Fire Department.
Lieutenant Ricky Parsons is a 30-year veteran of the fire department, joining BFD in August of 1982. Parsons is a certified Master Firefighter. He was promoted to Fire Driver in November 1990 and promoted to Lieutenant in January 2001.“Ricky is best known for being very dependable to call on for overtime assistance or for standing by if a member needed off for a short time,” said Mayor Stephen Haynes as he and Brownwood Fire Chief Del Albright acknowledged both men’s work and achievements.
Fire Driver David Reiger is a 29-year veteran of the fire department having joined BFD in September 1983. Driver Reiger is a certified Advanced Firefighter. He promoted to Fire Driver in July 1991.
“David id best known as a problem solver and Mr. Fix-it,” Haynes stated.
Both Reiger and Parsons were presented with a clock engraved with a message of appreciation for their years of service to the City of Brownwood.
“They served the Brownwood community and the citizens of Brownwood professionally for about 30 years, dedicating their lives and their time away from their families responding to our emergencies. We want to show our appreciation for their service,” said Brownwood Chief Del Albright.
Haynes thanked them for their service and stated that their loyalty to Brownwood.
“It really is unusual in today’s work environment that you have people that stay and be loyal to you for a long period of time. I know there were probably opportunities for you both to make higher pay and to go elsewhere to have jobs that pay more, but you stuck it out with us and did public service,” commended Haynes. “Municipal work doesn’t probably have the benefits of the private sector, but you can look back and say you did public service, you gave your life for the betterment of the public, saving lives and helping people and I think that is very honorable.”
