The C-shift with Brownwood Fire Department came to the Pearl Griffin Memorial Latch Key Program on Tuesday, October 6th to talk about fire safety for fire prevention month.
Firefighters discussed what to do in case of a house fire, having a safety plan in place and then let the children tour the fire truck. Those that gave the presentation were Captain James LeMond, Driver Justin Prince, Firefighter Aaron Steward (also acting as Driver), Firefighter Russell Beimer, Firefighter Bryan Harvey, K-9 Nika and Fire Marshal Buddy Preston.Founded in 1983, the Pearl Griffin Memorial Latch Key Program is located at 2411 Coggin Avenue in the First Christian Church in Brownwood, Texas. The program serves children (Pre-K through 6th grade) who qualify from low income families to have after school care so that the children are not left home alone.
Each year, approximately 80 children are served in Brownwood by Latch Key. First Christian Church donates the classroom space and Howard Payne students help as teachers fulfilling two needs, a low cost staff for Latch Key and a job through the Work Study Program for the HPU students. Latch Key is a United Way Organization.
