The First Annual Lion’s Pride Gala, entitled Sunset on the Serengeti, will be held on September 17th of this year at the Tolson Ranch in Deepwater Estates. The annual Lion’s Pride Gala will have a different yearly theme but will serve as the sole fundraising effort for the Brownwood Education Foundation, a 501(C)3 organization tasked with funding innovative teaching grants within Brownwood ISD, as well as teaching awards and appreciation efforts. The Gala will always be slated for the Saturday night of the BHS Homecoming weekend, giving our alumni the best chance to participate each year.
This year’s Gala has a safari theme and will be hosted at a unique venue, offering a remote setting with safari memorabilia and hunting trophies providing an authentic backdrop for the evening’s event. Brownwood’s own Tres Womack and his Austin, TX band, the Chubby Knuckle Choir (www.chubbyknucklechoir.com), will serve as entertainment for the night, and a catered gourmet meal, raffle, and live and silent auctions will round out the fun.Annually, the Brownwood Education Foundation will honor two individuals with newly named awards, the Lion’s Legacy Award, honoring a person with long term service to BISD, and the Outstanding Alumni Award, honoring a BHS graduate who has achieved extraordinary success in their personal and professional endeavors. The inaugural recipients of these awards will be Mrs. Frances Stovall, receiving the Lion’s Legacy Award, and Mr. Paul Waldrop, receiving the Outstanding Alumni Award. Presentations honoring Mrs. Stovall and Mr. Waldrop will be made during the Gala evening.
