Brownwood Lions cross country teams competed at the McMurry Invitational at Nelson Park in Abilene Saturday morning, earning several top team honors and 22 medals all around.
Lions varsity girls ran a 2 mile course and took first as a team over Midland and Cisco. Tori Burkett claimed 1st place with a run of 13:38 and Jessica Romero earning 3rd place with her run of 14:00. The varsity girls earned 6 medals overall.
Lions varsity boys ran a 5K and took 2nd place as a team, Midland was 1st and Abilene Cooper 3rd. Dylan Person had a big lead for first place with a run of 17:02.8. Coach Don Hood was pleased with the varsity boys performance, having four under 19:00. These included Person; Austin Snyder (12th) 18:23.46; Adam Tipton (15th) 18:50.88; and Jerrod Arredondo (16th) 18:54.47. The varsity boys team earned 3 medals. The boys are pictured at top starting their race at the meet.
Although the Varsity boys did not get 1st place as a team, Coach Hood was pleased with their performance against 5A schools such as Midland, Odessa Permian, Abilene Cooper, and Abilene High.
“I’m excited to have four running under 19 minutes. We’re doing well for where we are at this point in the season,” said Coach Hood.
JV boys earned first place as a team, over Midland in 2nd and Abilene Cooper in 3rd. JV boys earned 5 medals.
JV girls also took first place as a team over Odessa Permian in 2nd and Midland in 3rd. Micaela Lombrano took first place in the 2 mile run with a time of 15:28.00. The JV girls earned 8 medals.
