Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree announced his intentions to retire from his work with the City of Brownwood at Tuesday’s meeting of the council.
Rountree stated that he plans to retire in June with his last day in the office being June 23, 2015. He stated that he will turn 66 in June and will have seen many city projects completed; including the new fire station, making the timing right for his retirement.
“I have been in the public arena for a total of forty-four years and it is time for me to do other things,” said Rountree in his letter notifying the council of his retirement plans. “I look forward to retirement, but will always be grateful for the experience of serving as Brownwood’s City Manager.”He went on to state that the position has been challenging, but rewarding. “The support and respect I have received from the city council, city staff and citizens has been beyond measure.”
Rountree was hired in 2007 by then Mayor Bert Massey, Councilman Darrell Haynes, Councilman Dave Fair, Councilman H.D. Jones, Councilman Carl McMillan and Councilman Jerry DeHay whom he thanked for the position. He also thanked Mayor Stephen Haynes, Councilmen Draco Miller and Eddie Watson for their continued trust and support.
“Serving Brownwood has been my pleasure,” said Rountree.
