Brownwood News – Stephen Haynes has won the Brownwood City Election for Mayor with 986 of votes to his opponent Mike Tittle with 715 of votes. H.D. Jones remains in his seat on the Brownwood City Council representing Ward 1 with 988 of votes to his opponent Pat McLaughlin 650 of votes.
The Brown County Election’s Office reported 964 Brownwood residents voted in the Brownwood Mayoral and City Council races during early voting held April 23 – 27rd, and April 30 – May 1st. Additional totals for early voting included 89 voted in the Blanket School Board races and 25 voted in the Bangs’ election for the proposal regarding the sale of alcohol for off-premise use.
Stephen Haynes was born in Brownwood, and graduated from Brownwood High School in 1992. He obtained a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree from Abilene Christian University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Texas Tech University School of Law. Haynes has served as the Mayor of Brownwood since 2010 and has run unopposed until this year.
Haynes and his wife Lori have been married for 22 years. They have four children.
Mike Tittle has lived in Brownwood for 22 years. In 1983 he graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked 20 years in the 3M Brownwood plant where he retired as 3M Plant Manager in 2015. Mike has served on several boards and committees in Brownwood including the United Way Board, BRMC Board and Good Samaritan Deer Project.
He and his wife Cindy have been married for 33 years. They have two children Josh and Emily. Josh passed away at the age of 22 after battling cancer.
H. D. Jones has been a local business owner for 37 years. His platform has been a desire to serve all the citizens of Brownwood. He has become known during his service as councilman to oppose what he feels is wasteful spending or unnecessary for Brownwood. Jones is a self-described average, hardworking, middle class man who believes in integrity and honesty.
Pat McLaughlin is well known in the community for his work with the Brownwood Area Jaycees. McLaughlin ran for city council because he believed it was time for the younger generation to step up to the plate and start solving problems within the city. He hoped to bridge a partnership between two generations to bring positive change inside the City of Brownwood.
