The Brownwood Broncos semi-professional football team held their first team meeting Friday, August 10th at Lemons BBQ. At the meeting, the newly selected players got the chance to meet their teammates, captains and coaching staff.  Led by Bobby Dudley, Team Owner and Doug Latham, Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator, the team was given expectations for workouts, introduced to plays, and fitted for uniforms.

The Brownwood Broncos are a part of the Texas United Football League (TUFL). The league is made up of teams from across the state and is considered AAA which is one league below the professionals. In the games, NFL rules and equipment will be used.

“We are going to roster 25 to 30 [players] during the season,” said Dudley.“We have some great talent but, being a football town, I knew we would not be disappointed when it came to finding talent.”

Latham was chosen by Dudley to be the head coach of the Broncos, because he was a fan of his coaching style. Latham shares his hopes for the team and the season.

“My main hope and goal for the team this year is for us to be able to work as a unit, seeing that it is the first time that Brownwood has had a semi-pro football team,” states Latham. “We would also like to bring another championship to Brownwood and to continue to make Brownwood known for football.”

For Dudley and Latham, the goal is bigger than winning games. They want the Broncos to be an active part and supporter of the community.

“The team and I will be giving a lot of ourselves back to the community by doing a lot of charity work and fundraisers,” said Latham. “I really hoped to give young adults something to be a part of instead of getting in trouble,” adds Dudley.

The Broncos season will begin in January with pre-season play starting in December. The season will consist of 14 games with the possibility of playing in a championship and all-star game.

“We are excited to offer the fans of Brownwood football almost all year round,” says Latham. “When the high school season ends, our season begins.”

The first pre-season game is December the 29th in Abilene against the Abilene Gladiators at 12:30pm. Tickets for all home games will be $7 at the gate and, season tickets will be available at a later date.
