grahamarticlepicThis amazing thriller of a game lived up to the hype and statewide media attention with the Brownwood Lions securing the win in the last seconds of the game with a final score of 28-27.

With a scoreless first quarter, Graham suffered one penalty and a quarterback sack by #5 Joseph Henry.  Brownwood had 4 penalties and a turnover in the first quarter.

Second quarter, the Lions gave fans some exciting plays.  After a fumble and a Graham recovery, Joseph Henry pays Graham back by recovering their fumble which started a scoring drive ending with a touchdown run by #26 Levi Perez.

Later, QB # 14 Vance McShan passes to #8 Jaxon Shipley who, despite being double covered, makes and amazing catch for a 39 yard gain.  McShan connects later in the drive to Shipley in the endzone for a 26 yard touchdown pass.

The half ends with a score 14-0.

Mid-way through the 3rd quarter, Graham pulls out their first touchdown of the game.

Brownwood later throws an interception which leads to another Graham touchdown tying the game.

The fourth quarter began with a penalty, then a successful 25 yard gain by #12 Dillon Ellis who takes a hard hit.  Several great offensive blocks lead to 2nd & goal with a touchdown run by #38 Stehl Ratliff.

On Brownwood’s next possession on 3rd & 7, McShan connects to Shipley again for a 61 yard touchdown pass with about 5 minutes left in the game.

Graham answers those points on their next drive bringing the score to 28-21 with Brownwood in the lead.

With a little more than 2 minutes of time left on the clock, Brownwood’s defense brings the pressure with back to back sacks and eating time off of the clock.  Graham finally connects on a long pass for a touchdown bringing them to within one point of a tie.

They go for the extra point with 2 seconds on the clock and the kick is blocked by #25 Derek Longoria giving Brownwood the big district win.

This takes the Brownwood Lions to a 2-1 record in district play.  Next Friday, the Lions travel to Sweetwater seeking to extend their winning record.

This thriller of a game will be one that fans will be talking about for a while.
