Brownwood News – The Brownwood Art Association has several events planned for the month of May including a First Thursday reception to kick off the annual local Student Art Show, summer art camps, and watercolor classes. The First Thursday reception is open to the public and will be held on Thursday, May 3rd, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Art Center located at 215 Fisk Avenue in downtown Brownwood. All throughout the month of May artwork from several local schools will be on display at the Art Center.

 

 

Brownwood Art Association member Claudette West will be teaching weekly classes and workshops at the Art Building. A regular children’s art class for grades K-6th is held on Tuesday and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. All supplies are furnished by the instructor. A summer art camp for children will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from June 26,27,28; July 24,25,26; and August 14,15,16. Ages 4-6 will have class from  10-11 a.m. Ages 7-10 will have class from 1-2:30 p.m. Ages 11-14 will have class from 4-5:30 p.m. Cost is $10 per day or $ 25 for the 3-day camp. All supplies will be furnished. Classes are limited to 10 students. Children can attend one day or all three camps.

A watercolor workshop for adults will be held May 8,15,22,29 at the Art Center from 5:30-7 p.m. Cost is $60 (total for all 4 classes) and participants will need to bring watercolors and brushes and watercolor paper. For more information, contact Denise Sommer, 325-642-1816

The Brownwood Art Association continually offers a variety of events and classes for the community:

  • People Painters Live Drawing Group meets on Wednesdays at the Art Center to sketch, or paint live models. The group is open to the general public, free of charge. Sessions are held every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. if a model has been scheduled. For more information, please email jkirksey12@verizon.net.
  • The BAA Photography Group meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. and is open to photographers at any level, no camera equipment is required. The group is free to join and is focused on the love of photography. Mentors are available for amateur photographers looking to improve their abilities.   • The Muse & Merlot monthly painting party recreates select paintings. Cost is $35 per painter and includes all supplies and step-by-step instruction. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and painting begins at 7 p.m. Seating is limited, please email museandmerlot@gmail.com to reserve a spot.
  • The Brownwood Art Association is partnered with A.M.P. (Art, Music, People) to host a monthly Open Mic Night for the community on the 3rd Thursday of the month. There are twenty (20) entertainment slots available, performers are encouraged to call: 325.642.3036 to be added to the list, if no answer, please leave a message. Artists are welcome to come and create throughout the evening. Open Mic Night begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. at the Art Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
  • The art association also hosts free monthly demonstrations from a variety of artists, open and free to the public.
