A reception to open the Brownwood Art Association’s Photo Group Show was held Saturday evening.  Eighty seven photography pieces were submitted by six artists in this first public exhibit of the photo group.

The show will be open to the public Monday June 4th through Friday June 8th 11am-1pm and Saturday June 9th 9am-3pm at the Brownwood Art Center, 215 Fisk Avenue.

Many photographs will be for sale and contributing artists include:

  • Roger Levesque
  • Pat Coursey
  • Sulema Orr
  • Kim Hurt
  • Fred Spencer
  • Julie Mize

The exhibit will culminate on Saturday June 9th with a “shoot off” from 10am-2pm, where the group will pick a random subject to photograph and manipulate a piece into a finished work to be displayed at the end of the day.  The group invites the public to come and follow a photographer and see the process of how a photo becomes a “work of art.”

“The shoot off is being held to educate that photography is an art medium,” said Levesque.  “It’s along the same lines of traditional art, it is visually telling a story or concept through the photo and that too is fine art.”
