ArtAssociationLogoThe Brownwood Art Association will be holding an auction of the “Art in Your Attic” paintings, fine art prints, pottery, and Navaho rugs donated to the Art Association for the benefit of the Art Center’s Passionate for Picasso capital renovation campaign Friday, March 4th through Sunday, March 6th.

The public is invited to bid on the artwork from 10am-4pm on Friday the 4th, 10am-4pm on Saturday the 5th and 12-4pm on Sunday the 6th at which time the bidding will close.   Credit cards are welcome.

The Brownwood Art Association began in 1927 and continues today, with many talented artists as well as patrons who support the association’s efforts and the art community as a whole.

Today, Brownwood Art Association is stronger than it has ever been.  Exhibits, workshops, demonstrations from visiting artists and classes throughout the year are hosted by association.  They sponsor children’s art play days and even a $1000 annual scholarship is awarded to an art student from Brownwood or the surrounding communities.

The last several years, the Brownwood Art Association has held many fundraisers and used the proceeds to upgrade many aspects of the Art Center, which is located at 215 Fisk Avenue in Brownwood.  These completed improvements include upgrading the heating and cooling system, replacing the roof, strengthening the building’s exterior, electrical upgrades and a restroom that is up to ADA standards (Americans with Disabilities Act).  All of these improvements are Phase I of the renovation campaign.

Now the association is working to fund the Phase II projects which include:

  • Installing new wood floors
  • Raising the ceiling in the gallery room
  • Upgrading  the kitchen
  • Renovating the workroom, kitchen & storage areas to create classrooms
  • Add gallery lighting and new lighting throughout the building
  • Add signage to the outside of the building

It is envisioned that the association will eventually be able to host National exhibits at the Art Center, which will also encourage Brownwood tourism.  It is also hoped that space can be developed to house the association’s growing heritage art and have spaces for small receptions and meetings surrounded by beautiful fine art.

In addition to the auction, support of this project can be given in many ways:

  • One time contributions
  • Monthly pledges
  • Donations of materials (wood flooring, paint, lighting, ceiling tiles, & etc.)
  • Contributions made through the Brownwood Art Association’s website via PayPal.  www.brownwoodart.com
