Brownwood News – The Brownwood Art Association recently announced several events scheduled for the month of August. The community is invited to attend the events, several of which have no cost to join. The First Thursday reception is open to the public and will be held on Thursday, August 2nd, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Art Center located at 215 Fisk Avenue in downtown Brownwood.
The August First Thursday Exhibit will feature “A life through the lens.” Local photographer Fred Spencer will be remembered with his photographs on display throughout the month at the Art Center. Fred Spencer was an active part of the art community. He recently passed away and is dearly missed.
The Muse & Merlot selection for the month of August will be “Woman with a Parasol – Madame Monet and Her Son” by Claude Monet.
The session will be held on Friday, August 10th, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Art Center. Seats are $30 per person. Seating is limited to 30 people (No Holds). All participants will be supplied with the needed items to create their own 16×20 masterpiece.
For the August Demonstration, Sharon Anders will reveal techniques for face painting. An artist in oils as a hobby for over 30 years, Sharon Anders has been privileged to have taken classes in San Antonio and in Columbus, Texas with many wonderful artists. A retired Nurse, she now lives in Comanche, Texas with her husband of 44 years. She has two sons and four grandchildren.
“I fell in love with face painting mostly due to the laughter and smiles I produce from the children as I paint with them looking into a mirror,” says Anders.
The event is from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the Brownwood Art Center located at 215 Fisk Avenue.
The Brownwood Art Association continually offers a variety of events and classes for the community:
- People Painters Live Drawing Group meets on Wednesdays at the Art Center to sketch, or paint live models. The group is open to the general public, free of charge. Sessions are held every Wednesday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. if a model has been scheduled. For more information, please email jkirksey12@verizon.net.
- The BAA Photography Group meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. and is open to photographers at any level, no camera equipment is required. The group is free to join and is focused on the love of photography. Mentors are available for amateur photographers looking to improve their abilities.
- The Brownwood Art Association is partnered with A.M.P. (Art, Music, People) to host a monthly Open Mic Night for the community on the 3rd Thursday of the month. There are twenty (20) entertainment slots available, performers are encouraged to call: 325.642.3036 to be added to the list, if no answer, please leave a message. Artists are welcome to come and create throughout the evening. Open Mic Night begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. at the Art Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
