The public is invited to join the Howard Payne University SWARM group this Saturday at the Brownwood Area Community Garden for a special visit or volunteer event from 9 a.m. – 12 noon.
“The students always bring a lot of energy and enthusiasm and can really get a lot done in a short time,” said Garden Coordinator Daniel Graham. “Our mission is to knock down the tall weeds in the orchard, so bring your gloves, and hand tools like hoes and loppers.”
Participants are encouraged to wear long pants, and shoes and socks to avoid insect bites and scratches. Those who are handy with a string trimmer are asked to bring them.
Although it is still summer, it is time to do fall planting. A limited number of plots are now available to lease for fall and winter gardens at a reduced fee of $30, which covers the next 6 months, through February, when all leases expire and must be renewed. For more information call 325-641-9029 or drop by the Garden Saturday to pick up an application.
