Brownwood ISD will be expanding the use of laptops to 7th grade students soon. Brownwood students in 8th grade received laptops at the beginning of the school year for use in their classes and to take home for use. All high school students also have laptops.
The Brownwood Middle School announced that they are taking the next step and providing laptops to all of the seventh graders. The school has received the laptops and they are currently being imaged, tested, and prepared for distribution. The plan is to train students in their Computer or Reading classes and take up paperwork and the user fee during our first week back from the Christmas holiday. A workday and student holiday on Monday, 1/3/11, is scheduled so the training will start the first day back, Tuesday, 1/4/11. Officials said if an unexpected problem arises, the backup plan is to do this the second week back after the holiday. All students who have completed the four day training and returned the needed paperwork and user fee will be allowed to take their laptops home that Friday.
Regardless of the dates for student training and laptop issuance, there will be two parent meetings that first week back from Christmas. All parents need to attend one of the meetings. The meetings will be at 6:00PM in Lehrer Gym on Tuesday, 1/4/11, and on Thursday, 1/6/11. Parents will receive a user handbook and will be able to ask questions.
The computer user fee for this year will be a flat fee of $30 which is less expensive that the other grades since the computers are being issued later in the school year.
Due to increased enrollment and more grant money coming in, the district has expanded their 1:1 initiative and brought more laptops into the schools for student and teacher use.
