The Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit drew artists from across the area for the annual paint off competition which was won by two Abilene artists.

Artists were invited to paint during the hours of 10:30am until 3:30pm, their skills exhibited through an impromptu competition.  The efforts of 11 participating artists resulted in several very nice pieces of artwork which were finished in only six hours.  Artist mediums were varied as were their subject matter.

The judge for the day was Josh Pickens a professor at Howard Payne University and a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas.  Pickens said that he enjoyed seeing the artists’ work.

“I loved the paintings, it was an honor to be involved and to see everyone’s impromptu paintings, to see how they applied their talents,” said Pickens.  “It was enjoyable to see what they came up with in such a short time.”

Big Country Ford sponsored the event and presented two awards to the winners.  The top award, $500, was presented to Anthony Brown of Abilene (pictured above, left, with Big Country Ford General Manger Thomas Scull).  The second award of $250 was presented to Paul Friske, also of Abilene (pictured below with Scull).
