The Brown County Youth Fair wrapped up Saturday night with the annual premium sale which, according to BCFA officials, was another record breaking year.
Sales for this year’s premium sale garnered $281,000 for the youth of Brown County. This was the fifth consecutive year total premium sales amounts have increased. Over just 5 years, this amount has increased over $124,000.
Previous years records according to BCFA finance committee chairman Gayland Miller are as follows:

2013: $280,000
2012: $264,000
2011: $192,000
2010: $174,000
2009: $157,000
Each livestock exhibitor was allowed to sell one animal which made the premium sale by placing in the top 75% of their competing class during the fair in the market animal divisions, with the exception of the rabbits division where the grand and reserve champions along with the third and fourth places sell. Grand and reserve champions in the home economics divisions also earned their spot in the sale.
Thanks to many individuals and businesses who generously give to the sale each year, many of the exhibitors are able to pay for expenses incurred while traveling to other major livestock shows such as the State Fair of Texas, Fort Worth Livestock Show, and Houston Livestock Show according to BCFA officials. Others have stated that they will put the money into their college fund, according to exhibitors and their families.
