The Brown County United Way kicked off their 2010 campaign at a luncheon today at Howard Payne University.
The Brown County United Way supports 15 agencies in Brown County. These include American Red Cross, Boys & Girls Clubs, Salvation Army Loaves & Fishes, Brown County 4-H Clubs, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boy Scouts of America, Mid-Texas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Girl Scouts-Heart of Texas council, Brown County Association for Retarded Citizens, Latch Key Program, Small World Child Development Center, CASA, Family Services Center, The Ark Domestic Violence Shelter, and Cancer Services Network.
The goal for 2010 is set at $325,000 and 100% of all money raised by the Brown County Untied Way stays in Brown County to support these local agencies.
Lynn Humeniuk, Associate Professor of Sociology at HPU was the guest speaker at today’s luncheon. Humeniuk in speaking about United Way in our area said, “There is a huge need for all of these organizations.”
She want on to say that if she were to draw a picture of Brown County, she would draw a heart, “becuase the community has a giant heart in the way we help people.”
Humeniuk also acknowledged United Way Executive Director Karen Lynch on the great job she has done for the organization in Brown County.
