The Brown County United Way distributed over $50,000 to its member agencies at a luncheon on Tuesday.

According to United Way Executive Director Karen Lynch, Brown County United Way raised $275,000 in their 2013-2014 campaign, which exceeded their $250,000 campaign goal.  Lynch explained that the campaign proceeds exceeded the amount budgeted to give to member agencies and the remaining balance along with the additional amount raised over the goal enabled extra checks to be distributed.

Dion White, a United Way board member and Executive Director for the Center for Life Resources, stated that he was very pleased to present the checks with Lynch to member agencies.

“Everything we are doing is to help people, and to help all of the agencies in what they do for the community and what they do for each other,” said White who explained that this is what makes him most proud of the United Way.

White stated that the community working together to support such projects as the United Way’s annual fundraising campaign really exemplifies the city’s slogan.

“When I first moved here, I kept hearing ‘Brownwood feels like home;’ well after three years, it really truly feels like home and this is a good example of that–to see a community our size giving so much for so many things,” said White.

Lynch explained that the checks presented Tuesday were nearly twice as much as the amounts agencies received from last year’s allocations.
