Three Brownwood residents were arrested on drug related charges after they were stopped on a traffic violation.
Brown County Sheriff’s Office received information that a black GMC pickup truck would be coming into Brownwood on W Hwy 377 with a quantity of methamphetamine for distribution, according to sheriff’s officials. Investigator Jason Benefield located the vehicle in Blanket as it turned off the highway toward the Whistle Stop Cafe.
Officials stated that the driver committed a traffic violation of failure to signal the turn and was pulled over. The driver was identified as 27-year-old Breanna Lynne Spencer, and during the stop, Spencer denied consent to search the vehicle; therefore Deputy James Stroope and his canine Izzy were called in to assist. Izzy alerted on the pickup and a search of the interior found a locked Century safe, officials said.
The passengers of the vehicle were identified as 40-year-old Thomas Ray Berry and 31-year-old Jennifer Spencer Goins. None of the occupants of the pickup claimed to have knowledge of the safe, its combination or who its owner was. After BSCO deputy Stroope opened the safe, it was found to contain 8.3 ounces of marijuana and 14.5 grams of methamphetamines, according to sheriff’s officials. Other marijuana and loose marijuana were also found within the vehicle.
According to BCSO officials, the street value of the methamphetamine alone is approximately $2800 when “cut” or prepared for distribution.
Spencer, Berry and Goins were each arrested, charged with Manufacture Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Grade 1 greater or equal to 4 grams less than 200 grams and Possession of Marijuana Greater than 4 ounces Less than or Equal to 5 pounds. As of Monday morning, Spencer, Berry and Goins were each held in the Brown County Jail on $30,000 bond.
