County Tax Assessor Collector Cheryl Nelson reported, during Monday’s commissioners’ court, that the revenues for the county were increased in March over that of the past year. In March of 2012, the county collected over $835,000 total fees, sales taxes and title transfers. The county, according to Nelson, will receive $146,393.83 from taxes and surcharge collection which will be deposited into the general fund. This amount is up from approximately $78,000 last year, Nelson said. Of these fees, $4,070.13 was generated from internet payments, which according to Nelson are working well, especially for those paying fines and fees from out of town.
In other business on the agenda:
*Rains once again came just in time over the weekend to keep Brown County out of a burn ban. Commissioners all agreed on Monday during commissioner’s court that each of their precincts were still in good condition.
*Approval of an employee change was granted to both Commissioner Joel Kelton of Precinct 2 and Larry Traweek. One employee is transferring from Precinct 2 and will work under Commissioner Larry Traweek in Precinct 4 at the same current salary he had in Precinct 2. His start date will be April 18th. Commissioner Kelton also received approval for a replacement employee in his precinct.
*Steve Blake of the Brown County Historical Museum Board approached the court with a request for repairs to the museum. After discussion, commissioners took no action, but asked Blake to get more of an itemized list of the repair costs and to check with the Texas Historical Commission to see that the repairs are allowable before commissioners accept or reject the repair request.
