Brown County Commissioners proclaimed October 6-12 as National 4-H Week in Brown County at Monday’s meeting of the court.

Fifteen members of five Brown County 4-H clubs visited the court and brought a large basket and other pans filled with baked goods for the commissioners to enjoy (pictured above).

Brookesmith 4-H Club President Shyan Seamans read the proclamation brought before the court.  4-H clubs represented Monday included Brownwood, Early, Bangs, Brookesmith and May.

Pictured above are commissioners Gary Worley (Pct. 1), Joel Kelton (Pct. 2), Larry Traweek (Pct.4) and Wayne Shaw (Pct. 3) with Brown County 4-H club members (in no particular order) Sydnee Anderson, Tabbie Meador, Driston Petree, Katie Harris, Jessie Harris, Shyan Seamans, Laramie Nelson, Chloe Clowdus, Tanner Nunn, Kayleah Hall, Teadora Goforth, Heidi Goforth. Cody Goforth, Zach Goforth, and Timothy Hall.

In other matters on the agenda:

*A burn ban was discussed, however, all commissioners agreed that the county is in “good shape” currently and no ban is necessary.  No action was taken.

*Christine Pentacost received approval of hiring Angie Bindle as a replacement full time employee at the base salary of that position.  Bindle had previously worked in the tax collector’s office in a part time position according to Pentacost.

*County Judge Ray West received approval for a temporary part time employee to work as needed when maintenance/janitor Carl Greer takes vacation days or has to be off duty.  Debra Swallow will fill in as needed at $9.37/hour, the current temporary part time wage paid by the county according to West.

*Wayne Shaw received approval for an interlocal agreement between Zephyr ISD and Brown County.  Currently ZISD allows Brown County to store material at their football stadium on Hwy 84 in Zephyr.  Shaw stated that this has saved the county countless miles of transporting materials.  In the past, Zephyr has hosted a cross country meet at the golf course in Blanket, which has since closed down.  Now the meet will be held at the stadium and the ISD needed assistance from the county.  Shaw stated that his precinct crews will use a blade to create a running path around the stadium for the meet in exchange for the storage ZISD has provided.
