A Brown County jailer was recently fired and is accused of having sexual contact with a female inmate.

29-year-old Jeremy Wayne Essary was booked into jail Thursday on a warrant with the charge of violation of civil rights of a person in custody; improper sexual activity, according to jail records.  He was released the same day on a $10,000 bond.

The Brown County Sheriff’s office has been investigating the alleged incident between Essary and a female inmate since June 28th.  Brown County Sheriff Bobby Grubbs said that Essary was fired on June 30 over the accusations.   BCSO Sgt. Lana Guthrie is heading up the investigation.

“We expect the best from our employees,” Grubbs said.  “Conduct like this is against the law and will not be tolerated.  We take it very seriously,”
