A female clerk in the Brown County Jail was terminated and arrested Tuesday morning for providing controlled substance and having sexual relations with an inmate according to Brown County Sheriff Bobby Grubbs.
The following details were given in a release from Grubbs Tuesday.
“This morning, a Commissary Clerk in the Brown County Jail, 34-year-old Amanda Sanders, was terminated and then immediately arrested after an internal investigation determined that Sanders had provided a controlled substance to and was sexually fraternizing with an inmate. The inmate was a high-risk inmate awaiting transport to serve a life sentenced. Recently, BCSO Jail Administrators brought suspicions of the activity to Sheriff Grubbs who authorized CID investigators to conduct an internal investigation. After quickly developing the case, Sanders was found to be in possession of controlled substances inside the jail. She was immediately terminated and then booked into the Brown County Jail for introducing a controlled substance into a correctional facility, a third degree felony.
During the investigation and after the arrest of Sanders, Sheriff Grubbs and Jail Administrators initiated a number of aggressive security initiatives including searches and isolation of inmates. Introducing contraband into a correctional facility is a dangerous and serious matter. It was confirmed through the investigation that at no time was there a risk of inmate flight. Our Jail Administrators are especially commanding of internal procedures designed to detect security problems. In this case, those policies, procedures, and security measures in place worked to quickly bring this to our attention.
We want to remind the public that we work diligently to secure employees who have a high degree of integrity. The vast majority of our employees are of high standards and work hard to secure our community. Sanders, unfortunately, decided her integrity was something to be bartered and it landed her in the jail she worked in.”
